Plain-language summary

You sign up voluntarily and confirm by email. Nothing is sent until you click the confirmation link we email you.
We send only what you asked for. Either the Quick Start Guide list (occasional XEQT insights) or the XEQT Market Chronicle (one email every Monday). You choose.
You can leave at any time. One click removes you from every list we run. No questions, no retention flow.
We do not sell or share your email. Ever.
We identify ourselves in every email. Who we are, our mailing address, a working contact email, and how to unsubscribe.
Our emails may mention Wealthsimple, with which we have an affiliate relationship. Every email says so.

1. Who we are

JustBuyXEQT.ca is an independent Canadian website operated by Kernel Media, British Columbia, Canada. Kernel Media is not an investment dealer, portfolio manager or registered adviser. Kernel Media is the sender of every commercial electronic message (CEM) sent under this consent and never sends email on behalf of anyone else.

This contact information stays valid for at least 60 days after any email we send, as CASL requires.

2. The two email lists

List A: XEQT Quick Start Guide and occasional insights. Sign-up forms on the homepage, the guide page and the end-of-article pop-up. You receive a welcome email with the guide and three suggested articles, then occasional emails when XEQT does something notable, a tax rule changes, or we publish a significant new tool. There is no fixed schedule. Expect a handful of emails per year.

List B: The XEQT Market Chronicle. Sign-up form on the Chronicle page. One email every Monday morning covering the prior week's XEQT price action, investor sentiment and an AI-written editorial. It is weekly by design and we say so on the form.

Consent to one list is not consent to the other. Unsubscribing from either list removes you from both, because we treat any opt-out as an opt-out from JustBuyXEQT.ca entirely.

3. Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

CASL (S.C. 2010, c. 23) governs commercial electronic messages sent to or from Canada. Our emails are educational, but they promote our own content and may reference Wealthsimple, so we treat every one of them as a CEM and comply in full. We rely on express consent only. We never rely on implied consent, purchased lists, pre-ticked boxes or bundled agreements.

4. How we obtain your express consent

4.1 The request for consent

Every sign-up form shows an unchecked box next to wording that states, as CASL section 10(1) and section 4 of the Regulations require:

the purpose of the consent (which list, and what it contains);
the sender: JustBuyXEQT.ca, operated by Kernel Media;
our mailing address and a contact email;
that our emails may mention Wealthsimple, an affiliate; and
that you can withdraw consent at any time.

The form is rejected if the box is not ticked. Ticking the box and submitting the form is your affirmative act of consent.

4.2 Confirmation by email (confirmed opt-in)

After you submit the form we email you a single confirmation request containing a signed link. Your address is stored as pending and receives no newsletter until you click that link. If you do not click it within 30 days the pending record is deleted automatically. This protects you from being signed up by someone else and gives us a second, independent record of your consent.

4.3 What we record

For every subscription we keep, as proof of consent under CASL section 13:

your email address;
the exact consent wording shown to you;
the method of consent (unchecked checkbox plus emailed confirmation link);
date and time of the form submission and of the confirmation click (UTC);
the IP address and browser user agent at submission, and the IP address at confirmation;
the page or form the sign-up came from.

5. What every email contains

Every email we send, including the welcome email, identifies JustBuyXEQT.ca and its operators, gives our mailing address, contact email and website, discloses our Wealthsimple affiliate relationship, states that the content is not financial advice, and carries a one-click unsubscribe link plus the RFC 8058 List-Unsubscribe header so your mail client can offer its own unsubscribe button.

6. Your right to unsubscribe

Clicking the unsubscribe link in any email removes your address from every JustBuyXEQT.ca list immediately. A confirmation page is shown. No login, no form.
The link is signed with a secret key unique to your address. It cannot be forged to unsubscribe anyone else and it does not expire.
You can also unsubscribe by emailing privacy@justbuyxeqt.ca. Manual requests are honoured within 10 business days, and in practice the same day.
After you unsubscribe we keep only your email address and the dates so we can make sure we never email you again. You can ask us to erase even that record (see section 8).
Re-subscribing later is a fresh consent and requires a fresh confirmation click.

7. Affiliate relationship disclosure

JustBuyXEQT.ca has an affiliate relationship with Wealthsimple. If you open an account through a link on our site or in our emails we may earn a commission. This does not change what we write. We do not send email on Wealthsimple's behalf, and Wealthsimple never receives your address. The disclosure appears in the footer of every email we send.

8. Privacy: how your data is handled

8.1 What we collect

Only your email address and the consent record described in section 4.3. No name, phone number or postal address.

8.2 Where it is stored

In the WordPress database of justbuyxeqt.ca, on servers operated by our hosting provider Hostinger. Those servers may be located outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union, and data held there is subject to the laws of that country. We do not use a third-party email marketing platform; emails are sent from our own server.

8.3 Who can access it

Only Kernel Media's site administrators, through the password-protected site administration. We never share, rent or sell the list. If we ever engaged a service provider to send email on our behalf, it would be bound by contract to use the data for that purpose only, and we would update this page first.

8.4 How long we keep it

Pending (unconfirmed) sign-ups: deleted automatically after 30 days.
Active subscribers: for as long as you remain subscribed.
After you unsubscribe: the full consent record is kept for 3 years, the limitation period during which we might have to prove consent under CASL. After that the IP address, user agent and consent wording are erased automatically and only your email address and the dates remain as a suppression record.
On request: we erase everything, including the suppression record, at any time. If you do that and later receive email from us it will be because you signed up again.

8.5 Your rights under PIPEDA and BC PIPA

You may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, erase it, or withdraw your consent, by emailing privacy@justbuyxeqt.ca. We respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. 9. Security and abuse prevention

Sign-up forms include hidden anti-bot checks and a per-connection rate limit so that our list cannot be used to flood someone else's inbox. Unsubscribe and confirmation links are cryptographically signed. If you receive a confirmation email you did not ask for, ignore it: the address will be deleted automatically and you will not hear from us.

10. Changes to these terms

The effective date at the top shows the latest revision. If we materially change what a list contains or how often it sends, we will ask for fresh consent before sending under the new terms. Minor clarifications take effect when posted.
