Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

JustBuyXEQT.ca is an independent educational website operated by Kernel Media, British Columbia, Canada. Kernel Media is the organisation accountable for personal information collected through this site. We are not a financial institution, investment dealer, or registered financial adviser.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information in accordance with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

2. Information we collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to operate the site. We do not sell personal information to any third party under any circumstances.

• Server logs: When you visit the site, our hosting provider automatically records your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. These logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and diagnostic purposes and are not used for marketing.
• Analytics: The site may use aggregated, anonymised analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site (page views, session duration, geographic region at a country level). No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.
• Investor quiz submissions: If you use the interactive investor quiz, your responses are processed locally in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
• Calculator inputs: Inputs to our financial calculators (portfolio value, age, contribution amount) are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
• Contact: If you contact us by email, we collect your email address and the content of your message solely to respond to your inquiry.
• Email lists: We run two optional email lists: the XEQT Quick Start Guide list (occasional XEQT insights) and the weekly XEQT Market Chronicle. If you sign up for either, we collect your email address and a consent record: the exact wording you agreed to, the date and time of sign-up and of your confirmation click, the IP address and browser user agent used, and the form you used. Sign-up requires you to tick an unchecked consent box and then click a confirmation link we email you; no newsletter is sent before that click. We collect this to send you what you asked for and, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires, to be able to prove that you consented. 3. Cookies

The site uses minimal cookies. Session storage (not persistent cookies) is used to remember whether you have dismissed the top banner in a given browser session. This information is stored in your browser only and is not transmitted to our servers. No third-party tracking cookies are set by this site. If you use an ad blocker or cookie-blocking browser extension, the site functions normally.

4. Third-party services

Wealthsimple: This site contains affiliate links to Wealthsimple Technologies Inc. If you click an affiliate link and open a Wealthsimple account, Wealthsimple's own privacy policy governs the information you provide to them. We may receive a commission from Wealthsimple for referrals. We do not receive any personal information about you from Wealthsimple as a result of an affiliate referral.

Yahoo Finance: Live XEQT price data is retrieved from Yahoo Finance's public data endpoint. No personal information is shared with Yahoo Finance in connection with this data retrieval.

Hosting: The site, its database and the email list records are hosted by Hostinger. Hostinger's servers may be located outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union, so personal information held there is subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by its authorities. Server logs described in section 2 are held on the same infrastructure. Hostinger's privacy policy is available at hostinger.com. We do not use any third-party email marketing service; list emails are sent from our own server.

5. How we use information

We use the limited information we collect exclusively to operate and improve the site. Specifically:

• Server logs are used to diagnose technical issues and monitor for security threats.
• Aggregated analytics data is used to understand which content is most useful to visitors.
• Email addresses submitted through direct contact (for example, emailing us a question) are used solely to respond to your inquiry and are not added to any newsletter or marketing list.
• Email list addresses are used only to send the list you confirmed: the Quick Start Guide and occasional insights, or the weekly XEQT Market Chronicle. We never sell, rent, or share subscriber emails with anyone, and every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link that removes you from both lists at once.

We do not use any personal information for targeted advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

6. Your rights (BC PIPA / PIPEDA)

Under BC's PIPA and federal PIPEDA, you have the right to:

• Request access to personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate personal information
• Request deletion of personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
• Withdraw consent to collection or use of personal information

7. Data retention

Server logs are retained for up to 30 days. Email correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to address your inquiry and for a reasonable period thereafter.

Email list records follow an automated schedule. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days. Active subscriptions are kept while you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, the consent record is kept for 3 years (the period during which CASL may require us to prove consent), after which the IP address, user agent and consent wording are erased and only your email address and the dates remain as a suppression record so we never contact you again. You may request full deletion of any of this, including the suppression record, at any time using the contact details below. We do not retain personal data beyond what is required for the stated purpose.

8. Children's privacy

This site is intended for adults who are of the age of majority in their province or territory. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided personal information through this site, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the date of the most recent revision. We will not materially change how we use personal information without updating this policy and noting the change.
